Sy-jenq Cheng
After graduating with honors in Graphic Design from London's Central St. Martin's, I worked at Assorted Images under Malcolm Garrett (MBE). This exposed me to the international stage, instilling in me a respect for craftsmanship and the dynamism of a multi-disciplinary practice. There I had the opportunity to design for global brands in diverse industries such as design, art, fashion, technology, music and publishing. Following AI, I ventured to New York, where I undertook the rebranding of Details magazine for Condé Nast. I also worked for several design and advertising agencies, including Wieden & Kennedy (Amsterdam, Shanghai, and London) as an art director. In 2009, I returned to New York to continue on my multi-disciplinary work journey.
I’m a creative hybrid: A concept-driven designer and an art-based creative director, with skills honed in the fields of multi-disciplinary branding design, editorial and advertising. Intuitive and collaborative by nature, I love to question, to play, and to make things. And to put strategic concept and beautiful craft expression at the core of the work.
My work has been featured in Campaign Magazine, Grafik Magazine, Lürzer’s Int’l Archive Magazine, Idea Magazine, Design Week Magazine, Creative Review, Graphis Design Annual, Coolbrands, Graphics International, Youmark (Italy), Pictured Magazine, and more. Recognized by Graphis Design (Gold), D&AD (Festival of Excellence), One show (Gold, Silver, Bronze), Cannes Lions (Grand Prix, Gold, Silver, Bronze), Clios, Art Director's Club Germany, Long Xi China, UK Design Week Awards among others. Jury participation include the Art Directors Club New York (Advertising & Typography), The Clios, The Drum Awards UK, as well as student portfolio classes: Parsons, The New School for Design, NY.
